HAPPY EARTH DAY!
What are we doing at Da Vine Foods for Earth Day?
In January I made a resolution to work on our shipping. I want it to be completely sustainable by the end of the year. So this is our Earth Year to make a difference.
We already package all of our products in glass bottles that can be reused. Yea! that’s one win. It’s a start but I feel we have a long way to go.
We used to pack all of our boxes with a foam padding liner. This year we have changed to a craft paper liner. Yea! another win. We still have two more packaging parts that need to be replaced in order to be as sustainable as we can be in our shipping.
I have been combing the web for something to use to replace packing peanuts and bubble wrap. I know there are sustainable peanuts out there made of rice. I tried them and they crush under the weight of the glass bottles. Any ideas?
At this point we try and reuse the air pockets when we get them in from other suppliers. Being on an island in the middle of the Pacific has proved to be a bit more difficult as a lot of companies won’t ship to us. If they do, they charge as much for the shipping as they do for the products. So I’m looking for something that is cost effective as well. I want to maintain our free shipping policy if possible.
I’d love to hear your ideas or products that you have seen or used for sustainable shipping practices using glass.
I’ll keep you posted as we get more and more sustainable this year. I really want to do our part for future generations.
